Argus Lane

Argus Lane is a short lane behind the Cathedral of the Assumption. When the Eurasian community moved their church from Church Street over to here, they settled on this little lane in their own village. One of the bungalows there was called Argus House, and it was there that Penang's first newspaper, the Pinang Argus was published way back in 1867, surviving only until 1873.

Today only a small remnant of the Catholic community can still be found on Argus Lane. You can see elements of Catholic influences in the pictures of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary on their front door.
